NO SOUNDTRACK

On TV
There is background music
A soundtrack
For every car crash
Every murder
Every slow death
Violins are smoothed
Into the cracks of violence
A horn section may add
A big red POW
To Batman's punch

When the Tv is off
There is no soundtrack
No accompaniment
When a jet plane goes down
When the gun goes off
Just screams
Then silence
Or sirens

It was just a car backfiring
No, that was a gun
And the silence after
The broken bones of a fall
Waiting for someone to find you

It's a Thursday night
Prime Time lineup
Getting cozy with your popcorn
The Simpsons at 8
Then Seinfeld, Frazier
The prime time
To commit that crime
No one could hear you
Unless they got up to pee
During a commercial
